Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Chester grew up in Springfield, MA. He graduated from the University of Arizona (1967) with a BA degree. From 1989 to 2000, he was the managing partner of a manufacturer and distributor of "low-tech, high-brow" puzzles and games.
